Our skills

Systematic reviews and critical appraisal

We can undertake one or more of the following, as required:

  • Literature searching: electronic databases such as EMBASE and Medline, recognised HTA sites, clinical trial registries, conference proceedings, grey literature

We can use a range of methods to provide inputs to economic analyses, such as:

  • Bottom-up or top-down costing studies
  • Cross-sectional or longitudinal health utility studies using a Multi Attribute Utility instrument
  • Resource use surveys
  • SF-36 transformations
  • Critical reviews of utility literature We can prepare core dossiers to be used internationally for reimbursement
Economic and mathematical modelling

We can apply any of the following methodologies, as required for health economic analyses:

  • Decision analytic modelling using TreeAge DATA or Microsoft Excel
  • Markov and semi-Markov models
  • Probabilistic Sensitivity Analyses
  • Monte Carlo simulations
  • Bayesian analyses
  • Interactive models with a 'front end' in Visual basic

  • Retrospective chart audits
  • Prospective observational studies
  • Resource use surveys

Statistics and meta-analysis

We have expertise in each of the following types of analysis:

  • Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses
  • Indirect comparisons with a common comparator
  • Treat effect modification
  • Sub-group analyses
  • Survival analyses
  • Bayesian analyses

We can also build or tailor databases for a range of applications.

Reimbursement submissions and strategies

We can assist as required, from advising on overall strategy for a reimbursement submission through to completion of submissions, including submissions which defend the price of products already listed for reimbursement.

We can prepare submissions to a range of Australian decision-makers:

  • Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC)
  • State and hospital formularies
  • Repatriation Pharmaceutical Reference Committee (RPRC)
  • Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC)

HTanalysts has a proven track record of achieving positive recommendations with the PBAC and MSAC.

We attribute our higher than average success to our robust integration of clinical and economic arguments, and our pro-active defence of critical assumptions.

We have undertaken many PBAC submissions for high cost drugs which have required the development of justifiable eligibility and continuation of funding criteria.

We understand the perspective of the government, given that six of our senior staff have previously served as MSAC evaluators.

We pride ourselves on the clarity and accuracy of our writing, and can undertake any of the following types of projects:

  • Reimbursement submissions
  • Preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • Preparation of Posters for presentation at conferences
  • Technical reports
  • Literature reviews
  • Clinical Study Reports
  • Public consultation summary documents
